Make the most of our cost-of-living support!
I’m working to make sure we’re giving you the cost-of-living support you and your families need.
In case you missed it, the Miles Labor Government has recently announced:
- $1,300 off your power bill (automatically applied from 1 July) – any amount you don’t use will stay on your account as a credit.
- 50 cent public transport fares for ALL journeys from 5 August (you might’ve seen me at the Loganlea Train Station talking about this!)
- Frozen car registration fees from 1 July.
- Free TAFE courses and Free Kindy for all families.
You can also access:
- FairPlay vouchers to help get your children involved in sport.
- SwimStart vouchers to support swimming lessons for 0- to 4-year-olds.
- Free vaccines to protect you and your family against the flu, whooping cough, RSV, and Men B (search: Qld Health immunisation schedule to find out more).
Search Queensland Savers to make sure you’re making the most of all the financial support on offer.
I’m out and about in the community each week at mobile offices and doorknocking.
If you’d like to find out where we’ll be or learn more about our cost-of-living initiatives, please contact my office: [email protected] or 3445 3100.

New housing for women and children escaping family and domestic violence
Young mothers escaping family and domestic violence and facing homelessness will have access to four new self-contained homes in Logan.
It’s all part of the Labor Miles Government’s $2 billion Housing Investment Fund.
In recent weeks, we’ve seen just how prevalent and deep-seated violence against women and children is in this country.
When women flee a violent situation, sometimes only with the clothes on their back, they face the daunting task of setting up a home all over again.
That’s why I was so pleased to last week announce funding for The Lady Musgrave Trust who deliver life-changing support for local women and children in the Logan area.
Funding will support new houses, giving women and children a secure, stable, and safe home to start anew.
It’s in addition to our recent $3 million announcement for a new domestic and family violence support service in Springwood.
Eight Mile Plains Satellite Hospital now open!
Reasons why you’ll love the new satellite hospital:
- Free, walk-in healthcare.
- Open 8am to 10pm, seven days a week.
- A Minor Injury and Illness Clinic where you can get urgent care for illnesses and injuries not anticipated to be life-threatening, such as simple fractures, simple infections, earache, and minor burns and cuts. It’s where to go if you need to be seen quickly and can’t see your GP.
- Free on-site parking.
- Appointment only services include kidney dialysis, a cancer day unit, outpatient medical services, nursing and allied health services.
Mostly, you’ll love it because others are loving it!
The Eight Mile Plains Satellite Hospital is located at 59 Levington Road.
Check out this Google review:
Satellite Hospitals are transforming healthcare in our communities. This is the sixth satellite hospital to open its doors and so far, our latest quarterly data tells us they’re working just as we planned.
They’ve helped to reduce emergency department visits by 12 per cent compared with the same time last year, this is despite an increase of calls to our Queensland Ambulance Service.
Walk-in healthcare in our community is not only good for you and your needs, but for our emergency departments and hospitals too!
Local schools get funding for tuckshops
Our local schools are getting a big boost in funding!
Loganlea and Marsden State High Schools will both be getting a funding boost from our Eat Right, Play Right, Learn Well initiative to deliver tuckshop upgrades.
Loganlea and Mabel Park State High Schools and Waterford and Logaholme State Schools will receive funding through our breakfast program.
We’re providing $500,000 to deliver healthy food and drink programs to schools across the state.
I’m SO pleased that four of our local schools will receive some of this funding.
The Miles Labor Government knows that kids can’t learn on an empty stomach, which is why we’re also launching a $15 million School and Community Relief Program.
Schools are required to submit an expression of interest to secure funding – so be sure to let your school community know about this new initiative!
Contact my office to find out how you can submit an EOI.
