Thousands are predicted to celebrate the opening of what is hoped to be one of Logan’s premier tourism hotspots.
Distillery Road Market’s Food and Entertainment District (FED) is officially launching this weekend.
The brains behind the Eagleby operation, Kenton Campbell, who is also the founder of Zarraffa’s Coffee, said the FED marked a “significant milestone” for the region.
“This venue is designed to bring people together, through a shared passion for great eats and exceptional music, building on the foundation that DRM has been delivering for the past few years,” he said.
“We have created a truly world class venue that can accommodate around 2000 visitors, making it ideal for concerts, markets, and community gatherings that will only enhance DRM’s reputation as an epicentre of social and cultural activities in the region.”
The FED is home to an expansive outdoor entertainment area, on-site eateries ranging from smoked meats to pizza, and a large indoor market hall.
On the same premises sits a one-million-litre capacity brewery, Perentie, which opened late last year.
The FED is part of a broader $50 million DRM precinct development, which Mr Campbell said played a key role in the local economy.
“In the lead up to the Brisbane Olympic Games it’s timely that we are now unveiling stage two of the DRM precinct development, which includes both The FED and the recent opening of Perentie Brewing Co,” he said.
“Our vision has always been about building a destination that is for people to enjoy, both now and well into the future.”
Logan mayor Jon Raven said the venue was “exactly what the city needs”.
“We’re the youngest, most diverse and fastest-growing city in the state, so of course Logan residents are keen to support exciting venues like this,” Cr Raven said.
“This venue is in such a great location, just off the M1, so whether you’re travelling from what I like to call the Logan Economic Zone (Brisbane) or Logan Shores (the Gold Coast), visiting this spot, and our city, is a no-brainer.”
On Saturday, guests at the FED will be greeted by a variey of live entertainment, including live band The Soul Movers (featuring former red Wiggle Murray Cook) and local indie-pop group Juno.
“With so many venues closing around Queensland and limited opportunities for up-and-coming bands and artists to play local venues in south-east Queensland, the opening of Distillery Road Market is an oasis in the desert for local as well as touring artists,” Juno band member Kahlia Ferguson said.
“We are incredibly excited to be a part of the grand opening of such an important live music venue for Queenslanders”
Mr Campbell said the purpose of the space was to host “good times and great entertainment”.
“… and we are well on our way to realising this vision,” he said.
“We continually enjoy fantastic patronage of our market events and our popular food outlets, and with Perentie Brewing Co. opening and now The FED offering, our reputation is growing as a destination or everyone and somewhere that is designed to be enjoyed time and again.”
The grand opening event for The FED is on Saturday 29 June from 12pm.
