The fire at the Kingston storage facility has devasted so many in our community.
My heart goes out to everyone affected.
Business owners, charities, and residents lost so much in the blaze, but the Logan community did what it does best.
It rallied to support them.
Logan City Council’s Kingston Butter Factory team first heard about the fire around 1am.
Queensland Police wanted to use the site as a base for their operations and a potential evacuation centre.
Shoutout to our team member Lindsay Love who opened the gates and stayed around to make sure everything ran smoothly.
Minutes later, police were all set up, working with SES volunteers on the evacuation and movement of people and pets, as firies fought to get the blaze under control.
About 30 residents (including adults and kids) as well as seven fur babies came to KBF.
Some slept on stretcher beds set up in Butter Box theatre.
There were accessible toilets for people to use, and café Devon Pixies put on free coffee and food.
I’d like to call out the great work firefighters, police, the SES and the KBF team did.
You worked together to keep members of our community safe and warm when they needed it most.
This is the Logan I am so proud of.
Cr Teresa Lane was on scene throughout the whole day, providing regular live updates on social media.
Logan Council will let Storage King use some of our office space as they reach out to their clients.
However, our work isn’t over.
So many lost their treasured possessions in that fire, and I want to do everything I can to help.
Many of you know Tammy from Formally Ever After because of the great work she does providing young people in need with gowns and suits to wear to their high school formals.
She lost many dresses in that fire, so I’d like council to play a role in helping her back on her feet.
If you have a formal dress or suit that you can donate, please bring it to our council Administration Building at 150 Wembley Road, Logan Central and drop it at corporate reception.
I’ll make sure it gets to Tammy safely.
