Seven Logan-based charities will receive a share of $65,000 to boost the delivery of cost-of-living and domestic violence services in the city.
The City of Logan Charitable Trust received a record number of applications during its latest grant round, which opened in May.
Almost 40 per cent of funding will go towards projects aiming at putting “food on the table for Logan’s most vulnerable families”.
More than 30 per cent will go towards projects supporting improved education outcomes for local children.
And the remainder towards supporting children in care and families in domestic violence situations.
The chosen charities are:
- Serving Our People Inc: allocated for the free food supermarket initiative.
- Eagleby Community Association: allocated for supermarket food vouchers.
- Christmas Presents for Kids in Care Ltd: allocated for Operation Backpack.
- Eat Up Australia Limited: allocated for cheese and fruit for children’s lunches in schools.
- Friends with Dignity Limited: allocated for three domestic violence sanctuary programs.
- Oz Harvest Limited: allocated for three NEST (Nutrition Education Skills Training) program to potentially 75 individuals.
- EM Power Foundation Limited: allocated for the education program for First Nation students on native plants & sustainability and potential food sources.
The trust’s chair, Sohana Maharaj, said it was exciting to support a diverse range of local projects, including those that support First Nations children.
“This round’s grant approvals underscore our unwavering commitment to supporting grassroots initiatives that enhance the well-being of Logan’s youth and families,” Ms Maharaj said.
“Although we were unable to support all applications in this grant round, the trust is looking to increase our fundraising efforts to boost future investment in Logan’s youth and families in future rounds.”
Only 50 per cent of applicants were able to secure funding in this round of funding.
Since 2017 when it was first established, the trust has raised and donated $257,000 to community projects across Logan.
“Our vision is to inspire community collaboration and strengthen community connectedness and resilience in Logan,” Ms Maharaj said.
“Guided by our mission, we are dedicated to uplifting Logan’s youth and families, supported by our core values and human spirit.”
The trust is a public ancillary fund established by the Logan City Council.
Its mission is to uplift Logan’s youth and families by raising funds and making grants to eligible charities.
