How Bethania is becoming “New Farm of the South”

Bethania is the “New Farm of the south”, according to a longtime resident and local sales agent, and it’s attracting a lot of young people.

“It’s a peninsula suburb – just like New Farm,” Ray White Waterford agent Annette Clarey said.

“We’re surrounded by the Logan River, there’s one way in and one way out.”

The suburb can be dated back to the 1860s, but now it looks nothing like its former self.

“We’ve got buses, we’ve got trains, we’ve got a boat ramp, we’ve got off-leash dog parks, a community centre, a public pool – we’ve got everything,” Ms Clarey said.

“We’ve got a lot of older residents who are moving out of the area and a lot of younger people moving in.

“Because it’s an older area, most of the houses around here were built in the 80s, apart from the odd new one that has been built recently.”

She said access to essential services and amenities, such as shops and public transport, was attractive.

“I’ve had people ring me looking for property who have grown up in the area, left school, left home and moved away, but are now raising their own families and want to do it in Bethania,” she said.

“So that tells you what people feel about the suburb.”

Ms Clarey said it was hard to keep properties in stock.

“They’re under contract in the first weekend,” she said.

At a recent open home on Federation Drive, Ms Clarey said she saw 31 groups pass through and received 15 offers.

According to Realestate.com.au, Bethania’s media sale-price for homes sold over the last 12 months is $630,000 – up almost 17 per cent on the previous year.

More than 53 properties sold in that period.

“I’ve lived in the area for more than 30 years and in this particular house for 12 years, I know what the area has to offer,” Ms Clarey said.
