Logan locals now have the chance to put the city’s most heroic frontline workers in the spotlight.
Last year, local 18-year-old Jonesy Cairncross made it to the finals of the QBANK Everyday Heroes Awards for his service to the SES but missed the grand prize.
Since starting with the service at age 16, Mr Cairncross had performed life-saving CPR at a public event, assisted a fellow volunteer during a severe asthma attack, and rescued numerous bushwalkers on overnight recovery activations.
Nominations for this year’s awards will run until 31 August.
Anyone can nominate individuals and teams who “go above and beyond to protect and serve their Queensland communities”.
QBANK CEO Byron Fuller said the awards celebrated the exceptional achievements of people within Queensland police, fire, ambulance, health, corrections, education and the public service.
“For the last 10 years, we have put more than 54 frontline workers, dedicated volunteers and young people in the spotlight for going above and beyond the call of duty to support and uplift their communities,” Mr Fuller said.
“We have heard hundreds of incredible stories of triumph, tragedy, and accounts from people who wish to recognise the everyday heroes going out of their way to improve the lives of others, while in or out of uniform.
“This year, we are calling for more Queenslanders, from the top end to the south-east, to nominate individuals or teams across a range of sectors so we can say ‘thank you’ for their outstanding contributions.”
The six award categories are: Achievement, Ownership, Dedication, Working Together, Excellence and the Young Everyday Hero Award.
Winners will be selected by a panel of judges and will receive $2000 cash and $2000 donated to a charity of their choice.
“I encourage businesses, teams and individuals to nominate those who they believe deserve recognition,” Mr Fuller said.
Finalists will be announced in September.
